Fee System and How to Join Membership Categories and Qualifications
AIJ had 36,072 members as of March 2019. Each member receives a copy of the monthly Journal of Architecture and Building Science. Individuals and corporations may become members in one of four categories: regular members (individuals and corporations), student members, and supporting members.
- Regular Member (Individual)
An individual involved in architectural science, technology and art and who possesses the qualifications stipulated in the Bylaws of AIJ. - Regular Member (Corporation)
A corporation such as architectural design or engineering offices, general contractors, building services contractors, building material traders, and others, which are engaged in the architecture related business. - Student Member
An undergraduate student who has the intention to study architectural science, technology and art. - Supporting Member
Either an individual, a corporation or a group who supports the objective and activities of AIJ.
Membership Fee and Admission Fee
The current membership numbers and fees are listed below:

Individual regular members and student members are required to pay an admission
fee of 1,000 yen when they join AIJ.
How to Join AIJ
Any individual or corporation wishing to become a Member should submit
the membership application form through the introduction of a Member, to
obtain approval of the Board of Directors.
Membership becomes effective when admission and annual fees have been paid
and the approval of the Board of Directors has been obtained.
If you wish to become a member of AIJ, please send your application forms
to the Membership Department of AIJ by E-mail, Fax or mail.
Please note that it will take some time for the procedure to be completed.

Life Member
Any individual members who continuously hold membership for more than 50
years, will be given the status of Life Member upon approval of the Board
of Directors. Annual fees are waived for Life Members.
For information regarding Resignation, Suspension or Dismissal and Restoration of Membership, please refer to AIJ Constitution's Chapter 3 (Article 10 to 13).

Life Member
Any individual members who continuously hold membership for more than 50
years, will be given the status of Life Member upon approval of the Board
of Directors. Annual fees are waived for Life Members.
Honorary Member
AIJ may grant the title of Honorary Member upon approval of the General
Assembly to those who have made a significant contribution to the achievement
of the Institute's objective, or those who have rendered remarkable services
to the advancement and development of science, technology and art concerning
architecture.
Update Your Record
Changes notified by the 5th of the month will be applied the following
month. If there is a change of your address, affiliation, etc. please inform
the Membership Department as soon as possible.
