Development History of Modern Japanese Architecture
This book published in 1972 was planned as part of AIJ’s 80th anniversary celebrations. Twelve special interest groups established for this project exhaustively collected and organized data regarding the development of Japanese modern architecture over a century following the introduction of Western architecture in the early Meiji Period. The architectural trends of this period are recorded with particular stress on the prewar years. A chronology at the end of each chapter summarizes major technologies, institutions, and studies from the early Meiji Period to around 1965 in chronological order, providing an overview of development in each sphere of architecture.
