1911年―1916年の6年間で60号の文様集成が日本建築学会編として刊行された。その内容は、建築に付随する瓦やかえる股などの建築装飾、建築金物はもちろんのこと建築の彩色、建築彫刻や仏像、さらには、蒔絵や陶磁器などの文様も扱っている。また、日本国内の建築だけではなく、支那朝鮮の瓦文様や印度サラセン建築文様など多岐にわたる地域の文様が見られる。その編集の方針は定かではないが、時代は古代から江戸時代のものまで含まれる。現在ではすでに失われてしまったものも含まれるなど、建築の細部の魅力を再認識する貴重な文献である。

Pattern Design Corpus (1911 - 1916)
Sixty issues of Pattern Design Corpus were compiled by AIJ and published over six years from 1911 to 1916. These issues cover a spectrum of pattern design including not only ornaments and metal fittings for buildings, such as roof tiles and kaerumata, but also building coloration, architectural carvings, and Buddhist statues. Even patterns on lacquerware and porcelain are dealt with. In addition to Japanese architectural patterns, those from various areas worldwide are also included, such as patterns on Chinese and Korean roof tiles and Indian/Saracen architecture. Though the principle of the compilation is unclear, these are precious documents that make the readers reacknowledge the charm of architectural details through patterns collected from a long span of time from ancient times to the Edo Period including those that have now been lost.
